The Process
Davenport Surfboards specializes in making boards custom from foam to finish on each order. When you order a board, our designs are modified to serve best your surfing ability, local surf break, and where you want to go with your surfing.
Your board order includes a color tint of your choice in standard ortho resin and a fin by Sunrise Boardworks paired with the model you ordered.
To start the process, please reach out through the contact form below to talk about your order's specifics. We will send you a link to make a $50 waitlist deposit and place your order in the queue for our board production.
Once it’s your turn in the queue, we will reach out for a $300 blank deposit. This allows us to order the custom blank for your order. Since every board is crafted from start to finish, this may take some time.
PLEASE NOTE: In the past, orders have taken up to 18 months to complete, and we have streamlined the process and now complete boards much more quickly. But please know that custom items do take time and can be subject to delays. If you are looking for a board soon, a custom order might not be for you. We do not keep stock boards on hand for sale, but I shape stock models for Hobie Surfboards, Phil Edwards Honolulu, and Velzy Surfboards if you need something quickly. You can look at what they have available at hobie.com/surfing/surfboards/boardroom or contact Kris Carlow at kris@hobiesurfshop.com.
We will let you know as the order progresses. Once your order is complete, the balance on the board will be due, and the board will be ready for pick-up in Hermosa Beach, CA. We can also arrange packing and worldwide shipping for an additional cost.
Why we Keep it local
We source high-quality materials from local suppliers. Blanks are supplied by US Blanks in Gardena, CA and our fins are handmade domestically by master craftsman Brad Heath of Sunrise Boardworks in Torrance, CA. Boards are glassed in Hermosa Beach, CA, the birthplace of California’s surfboard manufacturing industry.
A Word on RESIN
Custom orders for all models are available using the industry standard ortho resin. While I’m known to use isophthalic resin, this is only available in limited numbers for custom orders of the Noserider, Shellback, and Baja model. Please use the contact form below to inquire about ortho or isophthalic resin board orders.
I occasionally make a stock board using isophthalic resin and offer it for sale. Please sign up for the mailing list or follow us on Instagram (@davenport_surfboards) to find out when these boards are available.
SO, WHAT IS ISO?
Isophthalic resin offers more strength and flexibility than the polyester resins conventionally used for surfboard laminations. Tests show 10% higher flex and 20% higher tensile than the resins that are currently considered the industry standard. It's what gives your boards that pop off the turns that will last for years to come. The short answer is, it's higher quality, and that's what we're about.
