U.S. Open Pacifico Noseriding Invitational
Saturday I ventured down behind the Orange Curtain to check out the U.S. Open. I would describe the U.S. Open as a three ring circus but that doesn’t nearly describe the how busy this event really is. More like a ten ring circus but the clown cars are lifted pick-ups plastered with huge decals on the rear windows. In the midst of the chaos and the hype was the Pacifico Nosriding Invitational. The event boasted a lineup that included the who’s who of noseriding. I gotta say Tyler Warren was working it! Here are a few photos from Saturday’s semi-finals.
David Nuuhiwa bringing some original classic style and showing the kids how it’s done.
Here is some footage of the event.

Friends don't let friends surf alone...
Congrats Mike!!
Davenport Longboards wants to wish a big ol’ congratulations to friend and team rider Mike Collins for completing the 2010 Rock to Rock paddleboard race. For those of those who don’t know the Rock to Rock is a 20 plus mile race from Catalina Island to Palos Verdes. Mike did it in 4 hours and 30 minutes! Not bad for the first time, huh? Mike will continue to train for the Catalina Classic in August. Go Mike Go!!!!
A fresh batch of fins came in and they're pretty tasty!!
The red D fins are ones that Mr. Davenport designed himself. They were inspired by the fin from a 1963 Con pig. There are a couple of them and the plan is to use them in a few upcoming pigs that are in the works. It may look a little unfinished in the picture but that’s because the plan is to glass it in and foil it which is only proper for any polished pig. The center is black and the outside is red so it should look killer once the foiling is all done.
Below is a one-off Rick Noserider fin. It 10"+ and will make a will soon fin its home in an upcoming board.

San-O Trip 6/9/10
Went to San-O with the Tyler Surfboards crew; Tyler, Josh and Lauren. There we met our friends from the far east where we shared the stoke and shredded some San-O peelers. Mitch Abshere, Kassia Meador and Scotty Stopnik all rolled down to show us how they shred down south. By the way, those guys freakin’ rip. Mitch dropped in on me and all I can say is what an honor! He rides the nose so well, Scotty too! Everybody had a fun time and our Japanese brothers we so stoked with their brand new Tylers’s. All the photos were taken by Kiyo of Classic Waves, check out his website!

New board at Surf Country
Harbour 10'3 Pig
Tyler is letting me ride this 10'3 Harbour pig. It has got to be the fastest board I have ever been on, it noserides like a champ and the cut backs are super sick. The board is 16x22 3/8x 15 and it’s 3 and 3/8 thick. The rails have a nice medium radius and the bottom of the board has roll through the nose. It’s a really good example of an early 1960’s pig. Matt, Melissa, and I went down the the Jetty this wekend for a little R & D surf with the pig. I came back just frothing!!!!!! Thanks Tyler for the board and thank you Mel for the photos.
