No Ordinary Man

Team rider Matt Sagraves completed his first LA Marathon in just under 4 hours.   This is proof positive that not just any ordinary person rides a Davenport! Matt took part in a race that set records for time and for adverse conditions to run in (over 2.5 inches of rain) . We at Davenport Longboards cannot express our admiration for Matt and his extraordinarily endurance and courage for completing this huge task. Way-to-go, Matt!

San O' Pig Roast

Mike Black of Surf A Pig is putting together what looks to be a pretty cool event. The Davenport crew will most definitely represent and bring some pigs from both the past and present. Details below:

here is the plan:
i am going to show up at San Onofre early…VERY early , Saturday June 18. I am going to look for a spot by a picnic table , some shade, and a fire pit. I am going to have a herd of pigs with me. I will update this blog post and state EXACTLY where I am at San O that day. I am also PLANNING on (not for sure)…but planning on roasting a pig (over the fire pit). My buddy Tom is a wizard at that shit. He might be into doing it. We’ll see… I am NOT going to ask for permits for any kind of shit. This isn’t all that complicated, we are just beach folk enjoying a particular kind of surfboard.

Please show up with YOUR pig. I’d love to see what all is out there in the PIG world!!!

Olympic Pig

Here are some pics of my new pig, a 10'0 Olympic that my friend Nick from Santa Barbara is letting me ride while he is in South Korea. This board is a lot of fun! It does not want to turn but it sure noserides like a champ! I also love the template (full pig) no bones about it! and the plentiful wood stringers adds a touch of class and elegance to an already bitchin’ board! So look out Kooks !

RIP Leroy Grannis

Leroy Grannis was born in 1917 - at the beginning of World War I - and lived through the Great Depression. He made the first cut in South Bay surf culture as a competitive surfer and paddler in the ‘30s and '40s. He fought for his country in WWII. Were you born yet? Guided by pioneer surf photographer Doc Ball, Granny got the photo bug and started documenting his passion. He is a man who has made major contributions to the things you and I hold sacred: surfing and skating. Were you born yet? Grannis was one of the first water photographers to paddle out on the North Shore. Twenty years later, in 1975, he was shooting the Del Mar contest, the Signal Hill Speed run, the first World Invitational Skateboard Championships. Were you born yet? Granny is everything good, honest and true. He has lived his life well. He is a giant piece of the puzzle that will always influence our sporting lives.
